Task 5 - (P5)

The products that I created were both targeted towards middle aged people aged 30-40. I think that my magazine front cover and double page really suited this certain age group because the magazine was bright, colourful and enjoyable to read. Also jazz music was reasonably popular within this age group and our magazine is all about the latest jazz music within North London. Our magazine decided too put a spin on jazz music and to create it to be more modern and up to date. Middle aged people would not want to listen to old fashioned music however, also would not want to listen to music that is in the top hit charts. So we thought that we would create a genre that fits in the middle so that this age group could enjoy reading about jazz and listening to it. Inside our magazine we made sure to include a lot of upcoming events and places to go and things to do that link to Jazz music in North London. This works well with our target audience because this age group want to find new things to do such as going out to bars, pubs etc and meeting new people whilst listening to a good set of jazz music.

This age group has a very wide range of personalities and therefore think that it will attract a wide range of people, both male and female. I think that more females than males will pick up our magazine purely because there are two good looking young males on the front cover so that will attract women to pick up the magazine. The fact that my front cover has 'North London' written on the front cover means that people that are living in North London are most likely to pick up the magazine as they may want to read about things to do with where they live.

I think one of the main weaknesses on my front cover is that my models look a lot younger than my actual target audience. I think that if the models that i got could've looked older and the nearer the same age as my target audience, it would have been that bit more popular. The colour scheme of my magazine fits really well with the whole Jazz theme. My three main colours are black, red and white. These colours are also well suited to fit my target audience as they are very unisex colours and they are eye-catching towards both males and females. The colour red is the key colour because it links to jazz and also is just a bright and creates the magazine to have a lot of energy. All three of the models are wearing all black to fit in with the magazines colour scheme. I also decided for them to wear all black to make it look like they are actually in a band  and to make the readers and the audience want to visit the band in real life or even just carry on reading about 'The 3 Notes' inside of the magazine.

The image of the front cover of our magazine is a very striking photograph because all three of the models are looking directly into the camera, which makes the readers feel like they are looking at them. This shot allows our audience to see the majority of the models but mainly there faces and facial expressions. This is good because it brings more emotion and feeling to the front cover. The body language of the models are quite relaxed and they look quite up to date and cool. This will also bring our target audience in because they may look up to the models on the front cover and want to look like how they do. All three of the models have a small smirk on their faces which could give a serious yet fun kind of vibe off.

The ongoing colour scheme of the burgundy red is done to symbolise the theme of jazz music. The musical notes at the bottom of the page are also there too show and emphasise that it is a new music magazine. This is effective and creates meaning as it immediately shows the audience when they see the magazine that it is linked too some kind of music and they will then be able to immedietly  decide whether they want to read about a music magazine or not. I added a barcode at the bottom right corner of the magazine to make it look realistic and like a real magazine.

The language that i used on the front of the magazine is all good English and decided not to use much informal language or slang. I chose not to do this because even though they may be modern, they are still middle aged and may not understand a lot of slang that is used today. Everything on the front cover of the magazine is easy to understand and is clear to read. The style of the texts are also mainly bold texts so that they are easy to read and so that they are eye catching.

The price of the magazine also works for our target audience and age group of our target audience. I made the magazine £2.50 because it isn't too cheap or too expensive and is affordable for our target audience to buy. I think that my front cover could look more mature than it is as it looks like it could suit a younger range of people, rather than the middle aged group of people which is what my target audience is.

With all new media products that are made there are many strengths but at the same time many weaknesses. Overall I think that my magazine was made with good standard and suits the majority of the needs of our target audience. One large downfall is that there isn't an online copy of the jazz times. This is a huge weakness and will bring money income down because not many people enjoy reading paper versions of magazines today as everything is online. We are working and planning to create online editions of our magazine so that in the future our magazine will get more popular from people reading it online.

A strength of our magazine is that we include places to go and events in North London. We do this so that our target audience can go to different places and try and meet new people whilst listening to jazz music. We also do it to advertise events for other companies so that they can also advertise for us. This creates firstly helping one another become more popular and successful but also it helps us and our magazine anyway as it feels space in our magazine and is something else that is enjoyable to read about.
